Kate Weston has had a varied career, focused on quality, safety and professionalism. Her interests are advocacy and support for Nurses to provide safe and quality patient care.
Kate completed the hospital based Registered General & Obstetric Nursing programme in Palmerston North (Papaioea) from 1979 to 1982. She worked as a registered nurse in Wellington, Hutt Valley, Hawkes Bay, Auckland and Palmerston North. Her nursing specialty practice has spanned hospital and community/primary health nursing, focusing on women’s health and child and youth nursing. She has worked in nursing leadership and quality management roles as Nursing Practice Leader - Child Disability Services at Waitemata Health, Clinical Secondee on the Waitakere Strategy Project and Quality of Service Manager in Child Women and Family Services at Waitemata District Health Board 2005-2008. Organising Committee Council of International Neonatal Nurses 2016-2019. Most recently Kate has worked as professional nursing adviser and manager at New Zealand Nurses Organisation in the roles of Acting Professional Services Manager, Professional Nursing Adviser and Associate Nursing and Professional Services Manager New Zealand Nurses Organization from 2008 – 2022. She has been Executive Director for the College of Nurses Aotearoa since 2022.
Kate completed a Bachelor of Arts – BA Social Sciences 1985 to 1997 and Master of Nursing from Massey University 1998 to 2002.
